Impetus adds new Recycled Threads to the Production in Jornal Têxtil

Sustainable raw materials already have considerable expression at Impetus, but the group is not happy and has just added two new types of yarn to its range: E*Retrace and 100% carbon positive cotton yarn Good Earth Cotton (GEC) . The company is increasingly opting for the use of recycled fabrics made from post-consumer material or industrial waste mixed with virgin fibers.

E*Retrace is a recycled yarn made from textile waste from the group's own production process. "The reuse is done through a sorting system that collects and separates waste in production", says the company in a statement, which specifies that, in a next phase, the waste is crushed and the European spinning mill is in charge of turning it into yarn. , which returns to Impetus again to become a mesh. The goal is to reduce waste to zero. GEC cotton is dubbed positive carbon because the carbon retracted is higher than that created during the growing process. “We were one of the first companies in the world to use Good Earth Cotton, and our objective is to start using this cotton in most of our productions”, says Ricardo Figueiredo, group administrator, mentioned in the statement.

These preferences result in a significant reduction in water consumption and also in less CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. They also have in common the advantage of having a technology - Fibertrace -
that allows you to track the process, making the entire chain more transparent and measurable.

The use of responsible wires thus joins the various other actions of the company, committed to reducing its footprint, such as the use of photovoltaic panels, biomass to produce hot steam and installation of integrated water treatment systems.

Impetus was founded in 1973, and what “started with six people, four machines and a family dream” has turned into a world-leading project. The company started in underwear and loungewear and several decades later uses the know-how acquired to expand its portfolio to areas as diverse as workwear and sportswear.
